Hopxime 1gm injection consists of Ceftizoxime 1gm which is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It is used in the treatment of specific bacterial infections that is caused by susceptible microorganisms. It functions by preventing the formation of bacterial cell wall thus stopping the growth and survival of the susceptible bacteria. Ceftizoxime is a parenteral antibiotic which is given by a qualified healthcare professional where injectable antibacterial treatment is clinically required.
Hopxime 1gm may be advised for the treatment of bacterial infections that impacts various parts of the body based on the susceptibility of the causative organism. Ceftizoxime has been used in the treatment of susceptible infections that includes the respiratory tract and urinary tract along with skin and soft tissues. It also includes bones and joints along with intra-abdominal region and bloodstream. It has also been used for some other serious bacterial infections that includes meningitis depending on the clinical assessment and approved indications.
The selection of an antibiotic should be based on the suspected or confirmed bacterial cause of the infection and, where available, culture and susceptibility results. Ceftizoxime should not be used for viral infections such as the common cold or influenza.
Ceftizoxime is a beta-lactam antibiotic belonging to the cephalosporin class. It produces its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial cell-wall synthesis. This weakens the bacterial cell wall and can lead to the destruction of susceptible bacteria. Ceftizoxime has activity against a range of susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. However, antibiotic selection should be guided by the causative organism and local susceptibility patterns whenever possible.
Each vial of Hopxime 1gm Injection contains Ceftizoxime 1gm. It is supplied as an injectable formulation intended for administration by a trained healthcare professional. The prescribed dose, frequency, duration, and route depend on the type and severity of infection, the patient’s age and health status, and the susceptibility of the causative bacteria.
Hopxime 1gm should be administered only according to the prescription and instructions of a qualified healthcare professional. Ceftizoxime may be administered by intravenous or intramuscular routes depending on the clinical situation and applicable product instructions. Dosage may require adjustment in patients with impaired kidney function.
Patients should complete the prescribed course of antibiotic treatment unless their healthcare professional advises otherwise. Unnecessary or inappropriate antibiotic use can contribute to the development of antimicrobial resistance.
Before receiving Hopxime 1gm, inform your doctor if you have previously experienced an allergic reaction to ceftizoxime, other cephalosporins, penicillins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Hypersensitivity reactions can sometimes be serious.
Patients should also inform their healthcare professional about kidney problems, previous gastrointestinal disorders, particularly colitis, and all medicines they are currently taking. Antibiotic-associated diarrhoea, including potentially serious Clostridioides difficile-associated colitis, has been reported with antibacterial therapy.
